His texts portray entropy in contemporary European life and the longing for empathy at the heart of the human condition. Winner of, among others, the Berlin Prize for Literature 2012, the Gregor von Rezzori Award 2016, the Thomas Mann Prize for Literature 2018 and the Formentor Literature Prize 2018. Mircea Cărtărescu is one of the most internationally renowned writers from Romania and considered one of the fathers of Romanian postmodernism. Àngels Gregori, president of PEN Català, and Lluïsa Julià, first vice-president of the Ateneu Barcelonès, will also take part in the event. In addition, the poet Susanna Rafart will recite some of Cărtărescu’s poems translated into Catalan. The event, which will begin at 6.30 pm, is part of the celebration of World Poetry Day, which is March 21, and Cărtărescu will talk to translator Xavier Montoliu Pauli.
